As with the previous projects, this one was also a first of its kind: making a static chart our of scratch, only using Photoshop. Attila asked me to make a timeline for the project he was working on – for many years, and with many versions published before this one. The goal was to visualize how the Hungarian media fell under government ownership in the past 10 years. Unbeknownst to me at the time – as I was mostly working from intuition and this felt like the perfect way to show this story – what I created is called a Sankey diagram instead of a normal timeline. Media flows in, media flows out, but the red river widens nonetheless. I tried making it interactive, as I was fascinated by interactivity – I still am –, but at the end I had to realize that not everything needs to be interactive. And the decision was for the better.
